”Hands-on-Training on Coir-Pith Organic Manure (C-POM)”

preparation was conducted by two Scientists from Central Coir Research Institute, Kalavoor, near Alleppey, on Wednesday 8th August 2007. This whole-day Programme was attended by more than 20 farmers. Dr Anita Das Raveendranath, Sr. Microbiologist, gave a lucid lecture on the various processes involved in the formation of C-POM. Dr. P. Brahmanandan demonstrated, with the active participation of local farmers, the various stages in the making of this manure for which ten tonnes of coir dust was used. CTCRI provided the required amount of urea, and ‘pith- plus’ (the Pleurotus fungus inoculum) needed for decomposing the ligno-cellulosic coir dust.
